Operation: We install an ON/OFF switch on the solar panel. At 8:00am, fountain is working as sun arise. At 9:00am, you OFF the switch because you go to the work and are not at home. The fountain won't work between 9:00am to 5:00pm (because you are not at home, and don't need it) and store all the absorbed energy (10W power) in the daytime into the battery. At 6:00pm, you are back at home and ON the fountain switch, the fountain will work whole night long for 8 hours (i.e., between 6:00pm to 2:00am). The second morning, the fountain works again before you get up because sun arises again.
In contrast: You ON the fountain all day and night, because you are usually at home at daytime. At 8:00am, fountain is working because sun arises. From 8:00am to 5:00pm the fountain is working with 6W solar power. The extra 4W (not full 10W in the first example) power will be used to store energy in the battery. When the sun set off at 5:00pm, the battery can continue to produce the fountain for extra 3 hours (less than that in the first example), because in the first example, 10W is fully used for charging the battery but in this example, only 4W is used to charge the battery. In addition, kindly note that some stored energy is also consumed because there is some cloudy hours in the sunny day time.
